Electromagnetism and Electronics - Science Dimensions 4 - Chapter 8
Knowledge & skills
- Describe the operation of electromagnetic devices such as motors, microphones and speakers.
- Design a variety of electrical circuits and describe their operation.
- Explain wavelength and frequency of electromagnetic waves.
- Be able to use the formula c = frequency x wavelength where c = the speed of light
- Identify and use basic electronic components including diodes, light emitting diodes, resistors, light dependant resistors, transistors, capacitors, batteries, buzzers, microphones, speakers and electric motors.
- Construct simple circuits to observe the effects of combining these electronic components.
- Use a multimeter to measuring current voltage and resistance.
- Apply Ohm's Law, V = I x R.
- Be able to use colour coding to determine the value of a resistor.
- Calculate the resistance of simple combinations of resistors in series and parallel.
- Understand the link between electricity and magnetism.
- Relate simple electronic circuits to everyday applications.
