In this assessment task you are asked to invent and build a working model to perform a particular task.
The challenge
You are to design a rubber band powered vehicle
Guidelines
- You will work on your model in class for a period of a week, and then have another 2 weeks to complete it at home.
- You must bring in to school the building materials for your model.
- You may complete this assessment task either as an individual or a pair. Pairs will receive the same marks for their work. Marks will be weighted for pairs; that is the same design and work effort would not recieve as high a mark if carried out by a pair rather than an individual.
- Your invention must be a WORKING model.
- Your invention must be original in design.
- Your invention must be safe to operate.. All models must have appropriate safety features.
- You should also have with your model a poster presentation which:
* shows background research that you have conducted that is relevant to your invention.
* describes how you went about building your model, problems you encountered, and how they were solved.
* shows a detailed diagram of your invention and its features.
* shows a clear understanding of the science being demonstrated.
This poster should be no smaller than A2 in size.
Assessment
Your model will be assessed in two parts. Firstly, you will be asked to present your model to the class in the first week of term 2. You will have to explain your model and the scientific principles involved. At the end of all of the presentations, there will be a judgement day, where all inventions will be tested.
Assessment will be based on the following criteria.
