Text Box: There was much more divergence in views regarding what should be the most important areas for improvement over the next decade with each community group identifying a broad range of possibilities.

Facilities improvement ranked highly on every group’s list with both parent and students also identifying improvement to the quality of teaching. All groups sought a curriculum reflecting a broader ‘life-skills’ preparation as well as partnerships and links with other Schools and tertiary institutes.

Thank you to all community members who participated in this process. Over the course of Term 4, School Council will develop and release via OURS a series of discussion statements related to Strategic directions and will seek further community input.

Text Box: Melbourne High School 2020

Over fifty members of the School community attended the School Council Retreat early this term to assist the School Council in identifying key strategic directions for the School over the next decade. Over the course of this term a number of Staff and Student forums have been conducted to provide specific input from these groups.

Students
SRC representatives from all year levels conducted the student forum and responded to the following questions in 7 small groups

It is noticeable that there has been a strong coherence of responses to the first question amongst all sectors of the School community. The following aspects of the School have been identified as the most vital to preserve by every group:
Selective entry
Single sex
Academic excellence
Traditions/Ethos
Broad Co-curricula programs

In many respects these are also the most unique characteristics of the School, so this support of its special nature is very affirming of the School’s current principles.
