ENTRY AT YEAR 9 and Year 10
Most students enter Melbourne High School in Year 9. For these
students it will be one of the most significant and exciting events
of their lives. Each year the School is rejuvenated with a new intake
of enthusiastic young men.
Melbourne High School will enrol a minimum of 28 new students
into Year 10. Selection will be by Entrance Exam, Application and
Interview. This additional enrolment will enable students with high
academic achievements and commitment to cultural and sporting involvement
to enter the School.
RESIDENCY STATUS
Students MUST be either Australian citizens or holders of a PERMANENT resident's visa, at the time of registration/application.

Notes for Year 9
- Melbourne High School selects 308 students to enter Year 9.
Approximately 1330 boys sit the Entrance Examination. The examination
is conducted off campus.
- Boys who sit the Entrance Examination are ranked according to
their aggregate score.
- To be considered for selection, a student must reach an acceptable
standard in all sections of the Entrance Examination.
- The maximum number of students admitted into Melbourne High
School and The MacRobertson Girls High School combined must not
exceed 3% of any one school’s Year 8 enrolment.
- 15 places are reserved for entry via the Principal’s Discretionary
Category. Applicants who missed a place because of the 3% rule
or were within 5 marks of the cut off score will be invited to
apply under the Principal’s Discretionary Category.
- The Principal’s Discretionary Application Form asks for
evidence demonstrating academic and co-curricular achievements
and a personal statement outlining reasons for wanting to join
Melbourne High School. The application must be accompanied by
a copy of the candidate’s current mid-year report. Applicants
are shortlisted and a limited number will be called for interview.

Notes For Year 10
- Melbourne High School selects a minimum of 28 students to enter
Year 10.
- Selection is via an Academic Ability Assessment, Application
accompanied by copies of school reports and for short-listed candidates
an Interview.
- The 3% rule and Principal's Discretionary Category are not
applicable at Year 10.
- Copies of the applicant’s 2007 end of year AND
2008 mid year school reports and Application Form MUST
be handed in on the day of the Academic Ability Assessment –
Sat. July 19 2008.
