CO-CURRICULAR Programme
The extensive co-curricular program aims to provide exciting activities
that will stimulate an interest in School life as well as activities
not previously experienced. The Year 9 program is designed to help
students to assimilate into Melbourne High School through meeting
students and staff with similar interests and by becoming involved
in aspects of School life, other than the academic. Students make
a year-long commitment to their chosen program(s), and many may
continue them throughout their time at Melbourne High and beyond.
The co-curricular program is seen as equally important to the development
of boys as the academic program. The School has found co-curricular
involvement actually strengthens academic performance.
All Year 9 students are required to participate in a minimum of
one activity from a range
of up to thirty activities. These include army and air force cadets,
music ensembles, rowing, debating, cooking, chess, bicycle touring
and outdoor Activities.
The program has evolved over the years and is reviewed and modified
annually.
The convenor of each activities writes a report on students enrolled
in that activity which is issued as part of the Semester 2 reports.
While co-curricular programs continue from Years 9 to 12 additional
challenges have been provided through a:
- Year 10 Community Involvement program. 20 hours of Community
Service over the year.
- Year 11 Cultural Involvement program. Attendance at three cultural
activities outside the School is required.
Students may also be involved in the following programmes.
