CURRICULUM Overview and Philosophy

Melbourne High School's curriculum is based on the expectation that its students will have the ability and the desire to be challenged through a broad education and a stimulating, supportive and competitive environment. The curriculum is designed to cater for students intending to progress to tertiary education.

At Melbourne High School:

  • The curriculum programme is balanced yet rigorous;
  • Enrichment programmes are operative at all levels;
  • The focus is on breadth of learning rather than acceleration programmes;
  • Technology is a major focus for the enhancement of student learning;
  • A strong academic core is provided;
  • A diverse range of elective units supplement the core curriculum;
  • Students have the opportunity to choose VCE Units as electives in Year 10;
  • · Students have the opportunity to choose a VCE Units 3 & 4 sequence in Year 11; and
  • · The development of students' knowledge, skills and independent learning is a priority.
