 Periods allocated:    10 per fortnight

Purpose of Course:

In learning mathematics, students will develop knowledge and understanding of facts and skills (eg. algebraic simplification, sketching graphs, linear equations, trigonometry, geometry etc.). The ability to conduct investigations, solve problems and communicate using clear and precise mathematical language will also be developed.  Proficiency in the use of calculators and computers will be encouraged throughout the course.

Assessment and Reporting:

As per syllabus.

Examination 

Semester Exams consists of two examinations, each of 1.5 hours. Written Examination 1 is Technology Free and will comprise short answer questions which test the students’ knowledge without the use of a calculator. Written Examination 2 is Technology Active and will comprise of multiple choice and analysis questions which test the students’ Graphic Calculator and Problem Solving skills.

Additional information

Each student must undertake a mathematical investigation involving the use of the TI-83/TI-84 graphics calculator and problem solving skills.
