329 MHS boys completed VCE English in 2012. Of these 256 boys acheived a study score grade of A and above (52.1% – A+; 25.4% – A).

Outstanding English Skills Demonstrated by Year 9 |
ENGLISH NAPLAN TEST 2012
In April all Year 9 students across Victoria sat the State
National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy test. We
are pleased to announce that our boys excelled across all
areas of Literacy in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and
punctuation.
Of the 327 students who sat the test, 100% of MHS boys are
well above the National Minimum Standard for reading, writing,
spelling, grammar and punctuation. The overall Mean scores
for each tested area clearly show Melbourne High School students
performaing well above and exceeding the State and national
benchmarks.

of reading, writing, and speaking and listening as the data

The John Button School Prize
A new initiative
of the Foundation. This year we introduce the John Button
School Prize, an award for the best piece of writing on
politics or public policy - ideas for Australia's future
- by a Victorian secondary school student between Years
10 and 12.
The School Prize
will award $2500 to a student and $2000 to the winner's
school for an essay of no more than 2000 words that in the
view of our judges shows the most insight, originality and
judgment on a political subject or on an issue affecting
Australia's future. Details are provided here.
