Business Management is a subject dedicated to educating students on the ways of the business world, teaching them how businesses start, operate and succeed. Students emerge from the subject with a comprehensive knowledge of business principles and a far greater chance of business success. Melbourne High students traditionally thrive in this subject with the subject averaging over 70% of students achieving over 40 for their study score in Year 12– this represents students being ranked in the top 7.5% in the state. The subject has also achieved unbelievable results such as 13 students receiving perfect study scores of 50 in just one year. Business Management students have also received 20 Premier's Awards over the years.
The course also involves many different activities and competitions such as Young Achievement Australia, Australian, Business Week, Macquarie Finance Academy program, Telstra Marketing Academy Program and the Sharemarket Game.
Business Management is taught across 3 year levels:
Year 12 Business Management focuses on Corporate Management: including Management structures and Management styles; Operations Management; Human Resource Management and Management of change.
Year 11 Business Management focuses on Small Businesses: including Small business decision making, planning and evaluation; Business Communication; Marketing and Public Relations.
Year 10 Business Management focuses on steps in planning a business; how sharemarket and property investment operate; advertising and skills required to run a business.
