In
Business Management we participate in the Business Alive program which
is a curriculum based enrichment program, teaching Business Management
students about business through the experience of a consultant from
a sponsoring organisation.
Over
a period of up to ten weeks, consultants from leading Australian companies
and local businesses commit themselves to showing students in the classroom
how the Business Management curriculum relates to the day to day activities
of modern business.
Consultants
cover topics such as marketing, ethics, management, production, finance
and budgeting and human resources. A visit to the consultants
place of work adds to the valuable links between theory and the real
world operation of business. Students have the opportunity to meet and
talk with local businesses, increasing their potential future employment
contacts and gaining experiences which can expand their career choices.
Business
Alive gives students direct access to the business consultant and their
companys operation. Supported by the flexible resources kit, students
gain a practical context for the skills and knowledge they are developing
in the classroom, and learn more about the role of business in the economy
and the community.

Examples
of businesses which have participated with Melbourne High are Shell,
KPMG Peat Marwick, Coca-Cola, The Australian Industries Commission,
Transfield, Arnotts, Business Solutions Pty. Ltd, Treasury Corporation
of Victoria, BHP, Telstra, Cummins, Orica Australia, Victorian Employers
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, T.A.C. and many others.
